Lime, Together for the Ocean and Visual Artist Francesca Page Unveil “Ride Green for the Blue” at UN Ocean Conference: A Bold Call to Protect 30% of the Ocean by 2030
- Lime partners with Together for the Ocean and artist Francesca Page to create a unique hero bike to invite people to join the race for ocean protection
- Together they unveil a unique art installation “Ride Green for the Blue”, imagined and created by Francesca Page, visual artist, ocean explorer and storyteller dedicated to saving the ocean
- As the third United Nations Ocean conference convenes in Nice, France from the 9-13 June “Ride Green for the Blue” rolls through the city’s streets reminding everyone – citizens and policymakers alike – that the race to protect the ocean is now on.
Nice, France – 9 June 2025 – In a striking fusion of environmental advocacy, cutting-edge art, and sustainable mobility, Lime has joined forces with the Together for the Ocean campaign and ocean advocate and artist Francesca Page to launch “Ride Green for the Blue” a powerful art installation and mobile campaign designed to turn heads and inspire urgent action to protect the ocean.
Collaborating with Together for the Ocean, a global campaign advocating for ocean protection by uniting stakeholders and organizations, this partnership is rooted in one critical goal: to protect and conserve at least 30% of the ocean by 2030 (30×30). As world leaders gather in Nice for the third UN Ocean Conference, “Ride Green for the Blue“ will roll through the city’s streets, reminding everyone — from policymakers to everyday commuters — that the race to protect the ocean is now.
The citizens of Nice alongside visitors are called to ‘Ride Green for the Blue’, to choose sustainable transport and support the demand for a healthy, protected ocean. Throughout the conference Lime rides will be tracked and tallied on the Together For the Ocean website from 9 June. Riders will also be encouraged to support the 30×30 campaign, including adding their voice to calls for the ban of bottom trawling in EU and UK marine protected areas. This destructive fishing practice is damaging so-called ‘protected’ waters, threatening marine wildlife, intensifying the climate crisis and impacting food security and economic resilience for people across the world, especially Indigenous Peoples and coastal communities.
“Together for the Ocean was created to unite global voices behind one clear message: protect at least 30% of the ocean by 2030. We’re proud to support Lime’s creative and visible commitment to this campaign,” said Rebecca Hubbard, Director of High Seas Alliance, part of the Together for the Ocean campaign. “Calls for greater ocean protection, including in the High Seas that cover nearly half our planet, need to be felt in our streets as much as in our policy rooms — and this campaign delivers both.”
A Living, Breathing Ocean on Two Wheels
At the center of the campaign is a unique Lime e-bike transformed into a traveling sculpture by visual artist and ocean explorer Francesca Page. Her concept imagines a bike transformed into a vibrant underwater ecosystem, where eight essential marine habitats, each critical to the 30×30 conservation goal, are represented. Covered in 3D-printed marine habitats, from coral reefs to kelp forests, the installation uses PLA – a biodegradable, plant-based material made from corn starch, cassava, or sugarcane, PVC-free ocean-friendly vinyl, and water-based, sustainable paints — making the bike as eco-conscious as it is eye-catching.
“This bike tells the story of the ocean’s beauty, fragility, and resilience,” said Francesca Page. “Each element — whether it’s coral made from plant based materials or detailed illustrations of mangroves — represents a habitat we must fight to protect. My goal is to bring the ocean’s voice to the streets, to spark curiosity, and to ignite action.”
As delegates race between high-level meetings, and locals and tourists glide through Nice on two wheels, this hero bike becomes a symbol of accountability and action — a physical reminder that every ride counts in the movement for ocean protection.
Not Just a Sculpture – A Movement
Beyond the UN Ocean Conference, Lime’s installation is not just to be admired — it’s a call to engage. At its heart, this initiative champions collective action and community storytelling, aiming to get riders involved for marine protection. In addition to the unique artistic bike, Lime will display stickers with embedded QR codes linking to educational content and digital calls to action. The campaign brings together art, mobility, and activism in one powerful message: ride green for the blue.
“Sustainability and reducing transportation’s impact on the planet is core to Lime’s mission. We’ve become part of citizens’ lives as our bikes are used for everyday travels, reducing carbon impacts one ride after the other. We are honoured to support this creative initiative with Together for the Ocean and Francesca Page as part of the UN Ocean Conference in Nice, once again taking a stand for the planet and inviting the community to recognize the role of transportation on the environment — to ride green for the blue.” explains Andrew Savage, VP of Sustainability at Lime.
